Online USID Renewal Requirements
- Eligibility: Retired and reserve uniformed service members, dependent family members, and other eligible individuals.
- Credentials: The sponsor must have a Common Access Card (CAC) or a DoD Self-Service Logon.
- DEERS Profile: Both the sponsor and card recipient must have active email addresses authorized for official contact listed in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
- Sponsor Status: The sponsor's personnel status must extend at least 30 days into the future.
- Photo: The card recipient must have a photo saved in DEERS that was taken within the last 12 years.
- Mailing Address: The recipient must have a valid U.S. mailing address in DEERS (P.O. boxes are not allowed for shipping).
How the Process Works
- Submit Request: The sponsor logs into ID Card Office Online, selects "Family ID Cards," and chooses "Renew Family Member ID Card" (or their respective USID renewal option).
- Printing and Mailing: The card is printed by the Government Publishing Office and mailed via U.S. mail to the recipient.
- Acknowledge Receipt: An email notification is sent when the card ships. The sponsor must log back into IDCO to acknowledge receipt, which activates the new card and deactivates the old one.
- Return Old Card: The previous ID card should be mailed back to the government.
Note: Initial ID card issuances, lost card replacements, and active-duty/civilian CAC renewals still require an in-person appointment at a RAPIDS/ID card facility. State-issued driver's licenses or state IDs must be renewed directly through your specific U.S. state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website or office.
